Hanging in there

In order to understand or merely coping with challenging matters we often make comparisons to images that we are more familiar with. When scared we can think of an ostrich sticking his head into the ground. Or fight like a tiger. In these times with the Covid-19 we are told to be like a hedgehog. It curls up and protects itself with his pins. Not the best image or role model in my opinion.

We don’t have to go further than to our older and more experienced organisms. The trees. They have been through most things nature throws at us.

Preserving energy by retracting the energy into the core, shedding what is no longer viable and blossom when better times comes to gather more energy. Because better times will come. We don’t know when or at what cost but better times will come.

But these metaphors usually fall on their own terms. Firstly the ostrich doesn’t put his head in the ground when scared. Unlike a hedgehog I don’t curl up and protect myself. Unlike a tree I don’t shed those not viable. I fill my time with other activities meanwhile and make the best of the opportunities I am served. I care for those around me and I share my thoughts.

But it is tempting to play with these images and metaphors. So I can curl up like a leaf if it helps somebody to understand me in these times.

Good health to you
